The University of Vienna was founded in 1365 and is the oldest university in the German-speaking world and one of the largest in Central Europe. At present, about 72,000 students are enrolled at the University of Vienna, in more than 170 courses. The University of Vienna is also the largest teaching and research institution in Austria with close to 8,300 employees, 6,200 of which are scientists and academics.
The Faculty of Mathematics is the largest mathematics teacher training institution in AT, authors of the most widely used textbooks in mathematics are staff members. The institution participates in scientist and student exchange programmes with several European and non-European universities in all fields, and in a variety of co-operations within SOCRATES/ERASMUS, CEEPUS and other nationally and internationally funded programmes. |
